Three DCRI Faculty Receive Distinguished Professorships

The Duke Clinical Research Institute celebrates three of its faculty members who were recently awarded distinguished professorships.

They were among 44 faculty members from Duke University and 27 from the Duke School of Medicine who were awarded distinguished professorships this year and celebrated at a May 4 university event held in their honor. These professorships recognize faculty members’ scholastic achievements and their demonstrated excellence in improving health. The DCRI faculty who received distinguished professorships this year are:

Chris Granger

Christopher Granger, MD, a professor of medicine and a professor in the School of Nursing. Granger was named the Donald F. Fortin, MD Distinguished Professor of Medicine. He has led numerous large international clinical studies in heart attacks, unstable angina, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation, as well as clinical studies of blood thinners and coronary intervention for heart attacks, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, and prevention of heart attack for patients with coronary artery disease.

Svati Shah, MD, MHS

Svati Shah, MD, MHS, a professor of medicine and of biostatistics and bioinformatics. Shah was named the Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Diseases. She is the associate dean of genomics and director of the Duke Precision Collaboratory, and vice chief of translational research and director of the Adult Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic in the Division of Cardiology.

Kevin Weinfurt, PhD

Kevin Weinfurt, PhD, professor and vice chair of research in the Department of Population Health Sciences. James was named the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Population Health Sciences. He is also a professor of psychology and neuroscience, psychiatry and behavioral health, and biostatistics and informatics, as well as the co-director of the Center for Health Measurement and of the Clinical Research Training Program.
